Situated on an unspoiled, horseshoe-shaped bay, San Juan del Sur has tranquil waters for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding, but is in easy reach of several other stunningly beautiful beaches—some of which boast massive sandbars for wading and sunning and others that rank amongst the best surfing in the world.

Reach for the Sky

Discover San Juan del Sur’s majestic mountains by hiking, biking, horseback riding, or embarking on an ATV adventure. If you drive for a couple of hours, you can also tour the famed Masaya Volcano National Park, a top TripAdvisor destination. In town, be sure to hike to the iconic ‘Christ of Mercy,’ a colossal cliffside statue of Jesus Christ that provides stunning panoramas of San Juan del Sur.

JUNGLES

Zip Through the Trees

Wander through the lush tropical flora and fauna of nearby jungles on an eco-walking tour or visit a nearby adventure park to go rappelling or soar over the treetop canopy with an exhilarating zipline. A few hours away, there are also tours of San Ramon, which overlooks the Maderas volcano, where you can swim in a waterfall and see sloths, monkeys and a great array of birds and butterflies.

Set Sail on Adventure

Drift away on a breathtaking sunset sailing trip, enjoy deep sea fishing (perhaps for the marlins the region is famous for), or dive beneath the waves with a snorkeling or scuba diving trip to experience the splendor of the Pacific Ocean.
